This is a set of social stationery, 12 distinct folded cards handmade from plates on an off-set press and 12 blank envelopes sized in the A6 standard (4.75” x 6.5”). Both the folded cards and envelopes are on acid-free Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Ultrawhite paper: the cards are on 100 pound cover and the envelopes are on 70 pound text. The sets of stationary are tied in white ribbon and presented in black kraft jewelry boxes adorned with labels bearing my studio logo and original signature.
The fronts of the folded cards employ 12 original art selections from my “Vertical Rorschach” series, in which abstract compositions, using only vertical lines, color, and shading, are evocative of subjects as varied as Easter, Courtship, and Royalty, and as such, serve amusingly as a series of Rorschach tests with cultural components. The folded cards are blank on the inside.
I am an artist, writer, and pattern designer, living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. My art and design come from a lot of places, while fashion in definitely critical among them, equally as important are geometry and jazz; a sense of balance from Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu; and a kind of idealism that looks for the transcendent in the everyday and finds lasting enjoyment in overlooked or neglected sources of value.
